Fed: Murdoch's support not assured for Rudd: MPs
The Prime Minister and Opposition leader are both playing down reports media mogul
RUPERT MURDOCH has endorsed the Labor leader.
Mr MURDOCH and KEVIN RUDD had a one-hour private meeting at dinner in New yesterday
.. and when asked if Mr RUDD would make a good prime minister .. Mr MURDOCH said he was
sure he would.
The comment's been widely interpreted as Mr MURDOCH giving his endorsement to the Labor
leader .. but JOHN HOWARD .. Mr RUDD and Foreign Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER .. have said
today the News Corporation founder was just being polite.
Mr DOWNER's also criticised Mr RUDD's behaviour on his US trip .. saying his failure
to meet with any political leaders shows misplaced priorities.
Mr RUDD returns to Australia tomorrow from his first overseas visit as Opposition leader.
