Author Barbara Fischkin, the daughter of an Eastern European Jewish immigrant, borrowed from the Irish poet John Montague for the title of her new book, ``Muddy Cup: A Dominican Family Comes of Age in a New America'' (1997 Scribner, $24).
The Irish, the Jews and, now, among the latest influx of immigrants, the Dominicans, have tasted of America's muddy cup, which holds both the bitter and the sweet.
